In a bedroom, most people want privacy and control over the light. With shutters you tilt the louvres to let light in while keeping the room private, or close them fully at night. Shutters give good light blocking, but not total blackout. If you need complete darkness (for example a nursery or shift work), blinds can give full blackout, and some people pair shutters with a blackout blind.
Indicative only. Shutter Cost indicative guide, based on published UK installer pricing (2026). Method: shutter area (m²) × the per m² range for the material. Not a quote.

How to estimate yours (our method)
Multiply the width by the height of the area the shutter will cover, in metres, then apply the range for your material. For example, a 1.2 m × 1.5 m bedroom window is 1.8 m², which is about £450–£630 in MDF / vinyl, £522–£720 in faux wood or £594–£990 in hardwood. Rounded to the nearest pound, including VAT.
Which style suits a bedroom?
Full height: covers the whole window and gives the most light control when closed.
Tier-on-tier: open the top panels for daylight while the lower panels stay closed for privacy. It tends to cost more than full height because of the additional panels and hardware.
Café style: covers only the lower part of the window, for privacy from the street with the top left clear. Because the shutter area is smaller, it is often the lowest-cost option on a given window, but it does little to darken the room.
Solid panel: solid panels are often priced differently from louvred panels, so ask for a quote.
We don't add a fixed amount for room type or style, because extras vary too much between installers to estimate reliably. A free survey gives you an exact price.
