Kitchens get steam and humidity from cooking, kettles and dishwashers, so the same materials that suit bathrooms usually suit kitchens: vinyl or faux wood (composite), which resist moisture. Shutters are also wiped down rather than washed, which helps in a room where cooking splashes happen.
Indicative only. Shutter Cost indicative guide, based on published UK installer pricing (2026). Method: shutter area (m²) × the per m² range for the material. Not a quote.
Indicative price per m² (fitted): humid-room materials

Indicative £ per m² (fitted)
Notes
MDF / vinyl
£250–£350
Budget option; vinyl is often used for wet rooms.
Faux wood / composite
£290–£400
Moisture resistant; heavier than hardwood.
The "MDF / vinyl" row covers both materials at the budget end. For a kitchen, especially near the hob or sink, ask for vinyl or faux wood and check the installer is happy with the material for that spot.
How to estimate yours (our method)
Multiply the width by the height of the area the shutter will cover, in metres, then apply the range for your material. For example, a 1.2 m × 1.0 m window over a sink is 1.2 m², which is about £300–£420 at the MDF / vinyl range or £348–£480 in faux wood. Rounded to the nearest pound, including VAT.
What to think about in a kitchen
Humidity: windows near the hob, kettle or sink get the most steam.
Taps and sills: tall taps or a deep sill can get in the way of panels opening, so point them out at the survey.
Patio and bi-fold doors: many kitchens open onto the garden. See tracked shutters for sliding and folding options.
Privacy at street level: café style covers the lower part only.
We don't add a fixed amount for room type or style, because extras vary too much between installers to estimate reliably. A free survey gives you an exact price.
